Who Would Have You?
Some are born into identity groups, some join, and others are forced into them. Which were you?
Membership:
Group identity can come from an extended family, religious congregation, street gang, political party, sports teams and clubs, sororities, secret societies, trendy youth cliques, professional associations or on-line groups ranging from Shih-Tzu lovers to model railroad pederasts.
Do I have to rebel?:
Most people reject some or all of their heritage as they form identity in adolescence and young adulthood. But you don't have to!
Join Us!:
Cults and cliques, gangs and groups are all good ways to define your identity by identifying with others! Being part of a group allows you to avoid painful decisions about your own actions and reactions. Let the group tell you what to do!.
SPORTS FANS: Identifying with a sports team can be visceral, but be careful about the associations. Fighting Illini? BAD! Fighting Irish? GOOD!
